Tom Browning was born in the small eastern Oregon town of Ontario in 1949. Since age 9, he knew he was destined to become an artist. After four years of college he started his career in art and has never looked back. He has established himself as an illustrator, author, teacher, and — most proudly — a painter. Although he has won numerous awards throughout his painting career, including the Prix de West Purchase Award in 2009, the highlight for him was becoming a CAA member.
“Becoming part of the CAA during the first 50 years of the organization is especially important to me,” Tom said. “I followed them from the beginning of my art career and always held the CAA in the highest esteem. From the very beginning it was the work of Charlie Russell that determined which direction my art would go, and it’s truly an honor to be included in a group where every member was touched by his influence one way or another.”
